How to read your first audience report

4 min readUpdated 2026-07-17

The narrative first

Every report opens with a written summary of who the audience actually is: its size, where it concentrates, and what makes it distinctive. If you only read one thing before a meeting, read this.

Composition charts

Below the narrative, each section breaks the audience down by one dimension: job functions, seniority, industries, company sizes, locations, skills and interests. Percentages describe the share of the audience in each bucket, sourced from LinkedIn's aggregate data.

The affinity lens

Toggle from Composition to Affinity and the same data is re-expressed against a baseline of all LinkedIn members in the same geography. A value over-indexing at 3x means this audience is three times more likely to have that attribute than the average member. That is usually where the interesting story lives: not what the audience is, but what it is unusually.

Freshness and refreshing

Reports are dated snapshots. The data-as-of stamp tells you when figures were pulled from LinkedIn. Hit Refresh on the report whenever you want current numbers; saved reports never change silently underneath you.
